Company History

From the Owner, Adam Terracina

Construction has always been a part of my life.  My dad worked in the industry and I grew up in it, so I guess you could say it’s in my blood.  In 1989, my family moved from Texas to North Carolina.  My dad, James, began working for Jud Ammons, a hall of fame inductee by the Home Builders Association and the City of Raleigh. I remember being around job sites and learning to drive equipment like skid-steers and tractors at a very young age. A little later I learned how to drive a manual on an old yellow dump truck with a granny gear. When my dad started his remodeling company, he taught me how to treat people in business and how to address concerns. He taught me how to take pride in the details and how to see things through the customers’ eyes. This was a driving force in building values such as humility, quality, and how we serve. 

Mr. Ammons also took a special interest in training me.  He went the extra mile to teach me how to work hard, to do things the right way, and to set a precedent daily. He made sure that I understood the importance of professionalism and of constantly learning in business. He was always the most prepared and the best problem solver. He acted with integrity and was incredibly humble given what he was able to accomplish. Most who got the privilege to be around him would say he was the smartest in the room. He would point to the “homework” he did in preparation or the hard work that it takes to succeed. Another trait that stands out to me is that he was steadfast. He would firmly hold true to a position, or direction, and follow through with determination, especially in the face of adversity. Seeing this in him helped me to start and build my business through the greatest recession since the Great Depression. Ultimately, Mr. Ammons became more family than mentor.

Growing up I worked lots of nights, weekends, holidays and summers in construction. After graduating from NC State with a BS in Business Management and a Minor in Accounting, I decided to go to work with my dad. Coming in with a lot of experience already, I managed his company for two years. In 2008, I founded AJT Construction, Inc. The early days of business were challenging during the recession. Armed with the values of the men who came before me, AJT Construction, Inc. developed a strong foundation and has been going strong ever since. We started by taking on almost any project to endure the downturn. By 2013 we had created 3 different divisions to address the growing demands of business: New Construction, Interior Remodeling/Additions, and Exteriors. Due to growth in multiple directions, in 2016 the strategic decision was made to focus solely on the growth of the Exteriors Division. This has yielded tremendous fruit and we’ve seen consistent growth year after year.
